Andrews has been documenting the changing rural landscape of southern Virginia and northern North Carolina since 1975. A collection of his work is archived at the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Duke University. In 2017, the Danville Museum of Fine Arts & History mounted an exhibition of his photographs.
This image is of a farm auction in Grit, Virginia, September 1976. According the archives, the photographer captioned this work as "This is the McFarland farm. They had become physically unable to continue farming."
