Philadelphia, first quarter 20th century, "Sterling" model, serial number 1157, 9 in. brass scope with lens cover and eyepiece, affixed to 56.5 in. wooden tripod; included are the instrument's wooden box, an unused "Transit Book," an unrelated "Railroad Engineers Pocket Companion" (Auburn & Buffalo, 1855), three graduated sections combining to create a 10-foot surveying staff, plus three wood and brass pole sections with rollers, the central section marked by the Chicago Steel Tape Co.
