Antique, carved from a single piece of wood and painted, Prince Shotoku is depicted standing wearing loose flowing pants, with his hands in prayer, his eyes are almost closed in meditation, Prince Shotoku was an important ruler born in 574, he made Buddhism the state religion of Japan by constructing major early Buddhist temples such as Horyu-ji near Nara.
