The first a small velvet lined box with tortoise shell plaque to cover, London (1911), rubbed sponsor's mark, period "M.A." monogram, retailed by J. C. Vickrey (1.75 x 2.75 x 2.75 in.) (scattered minor denting); the second a small ink well with tortoise shell hinged cover, Birmingham (1911), mark of Cooper Bros. & Sons, period monogram "H.S.D." (wear to tortoise shel, dent to collar of ink well).

By descent from the John Jacob Astor IV family of Rhinebeck, New York, through William Astor Drayton, the father of Countess Margaret (Peggy) Reventlow, philanthropist and patron of services for the blind
