Meiji period (1868-1912), inscribed at top right hand side Tsuto nawa nagatoshi-zo (Portrait of Nawa Nagatoshi), signed at lower left bottom together with red artist's seal, Nawa Nagatoshi is painted in a green kimono with striped layer near neck, seated holding a fan and with his two swords, against a gilt wood ground, a similar depiction of Nawa Nagatoshi to this portrait is one by Hasegawa Bo from the 16th century in the Tokyo National Museum.
