Bronze, signed "R. Cook," circa 1970, mounted to a free-form hardwood plinth inscribed with the title to the underside.

Born in Boston, Robert Cook moved to Rome in 1948. It was in Italy that Cook developed a unique and exacting technique for the lost wax process of bronze sculpting. Cook was the recipient of numerous awards over the course of his long career, including the Prix de Rome, a grant from the Tiffany Foundation, and a Fulbright Commission. His works are in numerous public and private collections including the Whitney Museum of Art in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Gallery in Washington, D.C.
