Oil on canvas (lined), bears signature at lower left "J. De Heem f", and presented in a carved wood and composition frame.

DOA 28 x 34.25 in., SS 23.5 x 29.75 in., stretcher size 24.25 x 30.75 in.

De Heem was one of the greatest painters of still lifes in the Netherlands, combining a brilliance and harmony of color along with an accurate rendering of subjects including fruit pieces, vanitas still lifes and flower pieces. He studied first under his father David de Heem the Elder (1570–1631), then under Balthasar van der Ast. He lived in Leiden from about 1625 to 1629, where he studied in 1629 under David Bailly (1584- circa 1657).

Two large vertical restorations to upper right and left near fruit bowl, one small area of loss along lower center edge with several scattered small areas near top center, darkened colors and aged varnish; wear and areas of loss to frame.
