with a 2.7 liter air-cooled engine and five-speed manual transmission. Originally equipped with air conditioning, the compressor and hoses have been removed, with the dash unit and bracket remaining. The air pump for the emissions system has also been removed. This model year should have had a 5 blade fan, that reduced noise. It is equipped with the 11 blade fan.
An engine rebuild was performed in 1991, along with a detailed invoice. The engine case number (6460995) is period correct, indicates an "S" model, and specifies that it was originally equipped to a coupe model.

To quote an article published in the PCA newsletter, "This model range was a transition period, and as a result, problems occurred that were not fully addressed until 1978. Chief among these was the engine case. Due primarily to the higher heat generated to meet emission laws, the magnesium engine case was weakened. This resulted in the cylinder head studs pulling out of the engine case, causing oil and compression leaks. In addition, the cases would warp, in some cases so badly that the crankshaft would not turn after reassembly. Fixes were devised for all the problems, and a correctly repaired 2.7 engine will last a long time."

A repaint in Guards Red was performed. It shows better than new, with the front cargo areas retaining some of the original Bitter Chocolate (408) brown paint. It appears the trim and rubber were removed prior to paint, and replaced with new all the way around the exterior. The door jambs, and other tricky areas do not show any original paint.
