Born in Windsor, Georgia, Myrtle Jones was inspired to start painting when she moved to Savannah in 1943. She worked in a contemporary impressionist style and exhibited at prominent venues such as the Telfair Academy of Art in Savannah and the High Museum in Atlanta.

James Arthur Williams was an antiques dealer and historic preservationist in Savannah, Georgia. In 1981, Williams shot his young assistant, the ensuing trial serving as the subject for the bestselling book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt.
