Galina Kurlat is interested in embracing the imperfections and possibilities of antiquated photographic processes. Her images undulate between the recognizable and the ephemeral. Using wet collodion, Polaroid film, and lumen prints, she addresses themes of identity, memory, and intimacy through 19th-century style photography.

The spoon pictured here belongs to chef William Wright of the Helen Restaurant in Houston. This photograph is a part of Gurlat's Houston Chefs Series that celebrates the thriving culinary scene in Houston.
