While Paul Hudgins' life was brief, his work was highly regarded in the American craft community. He studied at Berea College in Kentucky from 1962 -1964. He moved to North Carolina and maintained a studio in Stone Mountain.

His pots are in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and The Museum of American Pottery at Cedar Creek Gallery in North Carolina. In 1968, after his untimely death, the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh mounted a memorial exhibition of his work. A copy of this exhibition catalogue accompanies the lot.
