Late Edo or early Meiji period, 19th century, includes two playful shishi lions well cast with great detail to facial features and starburst pattern over body, one lion created as an incense burner koro, he sits elegantly in repose, there is an opening on his back for incense, the other lion stands on thin legs with his mouth open and his tail curled over his back, with a four character seal to underside of body.

The incense burner's cover has been broken with loss at hinge, but remains with item; tail has been secured to body.
