William Shayer, Sr. was a self-taught artist of the Victorian period. His best known works depict scenes of everyday life, with people and animals populating country inn yards and farm houses. Shayer was highly regarded during his lifetime and exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and the Society of British Artists.
