A Japanese Satsuma Vase Lamp

Late 19th century, vase is decorated with registers alternating between flowers in landscape setting and two finely depicted samurai soldiers from an ancient Japanese literary tale, borders at top and bottom of vase and between scenes have jewel color enamels with gold highlights, drilled and set as a lamp, set into a carved wooden base, with brass coin finial, comes with lampshade.

HOA 25 1/2 in.; Vase only 9 3/4 in.

Drilled to underside for lamp fitting; rubbing with loss to gilt around rim edge just under brass mount; a small break to wooden base.
