Charlie Shields Micol Estate

Consigned directly from the family, this box is said to have been made after the Civil War by Confederate veteran William Thomas Shields (1840-1919), who served as a private in Co. G (Orange Guards), 27th North Carolina Infantry. Private Shields was wounded at Sharpsburg (Antietam) on September 17, 1862, where he was captured by the federals. Exchanged in April 1863, Shields served the duration of the war. With this box, Private Shields honored our mutual American flag in a spirit of national healing.
