The first in oil on three primed hardboard panels, with applied wood strip frame, all mounted to a larger sheet of primed hardboard, the middle panel with two signatures, and the lowest panel signed to upper right, each panel depicting celebratory figures, the top panel with unsaddled horses (36 x 19 3/4 in.); the second an oil on found black synthetic heavyweight paper surface, loosely mounted to a smaller foam-core backing, appears unsigned, depicting three standing figures beneath a red moon-like orb (36 x 32 in.).

Purvis Young worked with materials that he found, recycled, or otherwise constructed to create a narrative. Self-taught, his work is personal and direct, recording the struggles, the hopes, and the joys of his world, the inner city of Miami called Overtown. He has created many public commissioned murals around this area, and his work has been included in many exhibitions throughout the US and abroad, including most recently at Palazzo Mora, Venice; the Met Museum in 2018; Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco in 2017; and numerous other prestigious exhibition venues.
