Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Sibley Decoy Factory, Whatehall, Michigan, founded in 1899. Collectors for many years were unable to identify the maker of these decoys and they were called "Mr X" decoys. Joe Tonelli was able to identify the maker as George Sibley when he stumbled upon an old advertisement clearly showing Sibley as the maker. This decoy has an oak inserted bill, a loose internal ballast weight, and a very hollow construction. The head turns 45 degrees to the left.
Length 12 in.
Combination of original and overpaint.
