Sir Muirhead Bone often depicted architecture, landscapes, and scenes from World Wars I and II in his artwork, so this portrait is a deviation from his typical subject matter. He met Heart of Darkness author, Joseph Conrad, on a ship traveling from Glasgow to New York in 1923, and he soon after completed several portrait prints of the author, including this work. Bone was knighted in 1937 for his lifelong services to the arts.

A lovely, delicate impression; some skinning lower portion of print; not examined out of frame.
