Paint on masonite, the first depicts a flowering tree with a bird atop (24 x 12 in.); a black bird amid colorful flowers (12 x 23 in.) (paint thinly applied to edges); a paint on plywood of several birds on a branch (8 1/2 x 14 3/4 in.)

Mose Tolliver was born to sharecroppers near Montgomery, Alabama. After a severe injury in the late 1960s, he turned to painting as a means to combat boredom and pain. Tolliver's work has been exhibited in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C., the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, American Folk Art Museum, New York, and the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Montgomery, Alabama.
