Robert Benjamin "Ben" O'Neal (1887-1953), Ocracoke, North Carolina. Ben O'Neal was born and raised on Ocracoke Island. As a young teenager, he market hunted with his cousins, Little Ike and Walter O'Neal. He served briefly in World War I. Ben made roughly 300-400 decoys but most ended up in wood stoves to create warmth. This brant decoy was repainted as a goose after the 1933 eel grass blight hurt the brant migration.
