Sergio has lived in the Guadalajara area since early childhood, and studied architecture at the University of Guadalajara. His interests shifted toward fine arts and crafts, developing artwork in papier-mache, bronze, and mixed media sculptures of animals for which he is best known. Often with playful and surrealist themes, his work is inspired by dreams, folk art of his native Mexico, and the writing of Jules Verne. The first exhibit of his works were at the Galeria Misracha in Mexico City in 1966. After travels in Amsterdam and the United States, Sergio returned to Guadalajara in 1975 and established the "Family Workshop Studio" in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico. Sergio has also created works in other media including jewelry, furniture, and ceramics. His work is represented by Meyer East Gallery in Santa Fe, and he has completed many public commissioned artworks throughout his career.
