Circa 1960, labeled Myrtle Desk, High Point, North Carolina, large slightly-lozenge shaped 'floating' top with high-grade book-matched figured rosewood veneers, underside beveled edge, the front with two writing slides and three drawers, the verso finished with high grade veneers, recessed panels with brass grilles, on tapered feet.

Terry Sanford (1917-1998) was an American politician, lawyer, and educator. Born in Laurinburg, North Carolina and later attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Sanford went on to work as an FBI agent before serving in World War II as a paratrooper. Sanford returned to North Carolina after the war to finish law school then to practice law in Fayetteville and Raleigh. He served as Governor of North Carolina from 1961-1965, was a two-time presidential candidate in the 1970s, and he served as a U.S. Senator from 1986-1993. Sanford was president of Duke University from 1969-1985.

Sanford used the desk offered here in his law office in Raleigh.
