A substantial sculpture of layered industrial sheet glass with sandblasted and stonework carved design in an organic shape inspired from her collection of crystals and geodes, signed and dated '97 at base edge, the underside with five applied protective clear rubber stoppers.

Maria Lugossy (Hungarian, 1950-2012) was a gold and silversmith, sculptor, and glass designer and artist. She received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Hungarian Academy of Applied Arts. Her work can be found in museums worldwide, including the Musée du Louvre in Paris, Corning Museum in New York, Rijksmuseum in the Netherlands, and the British Museum in London. During her lifetime she had over fifty solo exhibitions and contributed to over seventy group shows. She won seventeen awards, including the 1992 Grand Prize at the FIDEM International Congress and Exhibition of Medal Art, British Museum, London, and the 1992 Grand Prize at the Centre International d'Art Contemproain, Chateau Beychevelle, France. Her works are exhibited in twenty-five museums and collections in Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
