Sam Smith of Long Island, New York made a rig of these wide hipped decoys in the early 1870s for the Swan Island Club. The history of this club began in 1870 when a violent storm grounded the sailing yacht Anonyona in the vicinity. It was at this point that the Swan Island Club was founded. This particular decoy is branded Carter twice and Endicott once. This exact decoy is published on page 108 of Gunnin' Birds by Kroghie Andresen.
