Early 20th century, carved wooden sculptures with allover applied gilt and inlaid with colored glass circles, the guardian figures stand on raised platform bases with geometric and swirling decoration in low relief, details include grimaced faces, large pointed ears under pointed hats, they both hold rods in front of their bodies, each appear tob e carved from a single solid piece of wood, created to stand outside of temple and elaborate home entrances to guard and ward off evil spirits.

Some bluish green coloring to gilt on base behind foot of one figure; some light rubbing and wear to surface; two loose pieces of ornamental glass is apart but remains with the figures, both with museum accession numbers on base.
