This may be a copy of a lost work by Potter of 1650. One antique copy is in the collection of the Dulwich Picture Gallery, and two other known versions of the same composition have come to market, one in 1927 and a second at Sotheby's in 1987.

Surface grime; several patches to verso; area of retouch to lower right corner; some minor chipping to frame.
