Two Photographs by the Bayard Wootten - George Moulton Studio, Chapel Hill
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
The first a gelatin silver print of a scene from the 1920 Carolina Playmakers production of "Dod Gast Ye Both! A Comedy of Mountain Moonshiners" in Chapel HIll. A note on the back says the still in the scene was "...taken by Orange County, NC sheriff's department from local moonshiners." (frame 7-1/2 x 10-3/4 in.) (good condition); the second image a panoramic view titled "Firemen's Tournament - New Bern, N. C. Aug. 1928," showing participants in front of the Craven County courthouse; presented in a modern faux wood plastic frame (14-3/4 x 39 in.) (edge chips; some stains from a long-ago liquid spill).

Bayward Wootten (1875-1959) was a native of New Bern, NC and took to photography in the early 20th century. Best known today for documenting the rural South, Wooten also made a living as a paid photographer in partnership with her half-brother George Moulton of Chapel Hill.
