Dolly Robinson was born Dorothy Travers Smith in Dublin in 1901. She began her art studies with the noted Irish painter, Estella Solomons. She moved to London to continue studies at the Chelsea College of Arts, living with her mother at Cheyne Gardens.

Dolly Robinson is best remembered as a theatre designer. She designed sets and costumes for plays by Eugene O'Neill, William Butler Yeats, George Bernard Shaw, and many others. Through her work with the theatre, she met Lennox Robinson, an Irish dramatist, poet and theatre producer, whom she married in 1931.

In addition to her set and costumes designs, Robinson's paintings were equally well received. She exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Irish Exhibition of Living Art. She was also a member of the Dublin United Arts Club.

Professionally cleaned and varnished in 2020.
