Philip worked as a biologist, chemist, and lawyer before eventually deciding to devote himself to woodturning. Learning wood turning techniques from his father Ed, Philip enjoys discovering unusual grains and colors in a new piece of wood and orients the turning form to highlight these natural features. He lives and works in Marietta, Georgia.

His work can be found in the collections of the Museum of Arts and Design, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Mint Museum of Craft + Design, Renwick Gallery, and White House Collection of American Crafts, among many others.
