German Sterling Silver Singing Bird Automaton Box

Circa 1900, the underside marked "Sterling / Germany / 925 / 1," the serpentine case raised on bun feet, with all over embossed scroll floral, putti and instrument designs on a stippled ground. When the mechanism is wound, the oval lid lifts to reveal a feathered bird which pivots, flaps, and chirps; includes key.

Automaton mechanism's sound and some movement working intermittently at time of evaluation; some scattered scratches to case and some wear and loss to feathers; later key.
