Ocracoke, North Carolina, this hen pintail is extremely rare and was made for Captain Thurston Gaskill (1902-2000), Thurston learned the intricacies of waterfowling from his father at an early age, he was a market hunter and very well known hunting and fishing guide, during the great freeze of 1918, he and is dad were iced in on Beacon Island for 21 days; during that time, they killed 325 geese, brant, and ducks; these birds were packed in barrels and shipped to market in New York City; this decoy is rare and significant.

Lawrence was one of the finest decoy makers from Ocracoke. His carving style varied but his birds always offered dynamic paint and extremely well crafted decoys.
