Along the southern Outer Banks, there are more unknown shorebird decoys than those that are identified, from the 1870's to the 1930's this region was some of the most prime shorebird habitat on the east coast, a rigmate to this decoy is published on page 166 of Shorebird Decoys of North Carolina by Kroghie Andresen and Philip Harvey, this shorebird depicted in an alert pose and sports a nail bill.
