A native of Sakai City, Osaka, Chikubosai II studied under his father, Chikubosai I, and Yamamoto Chikuryosai I (Shoen), becoming an independent artist in 1941 and succeeding to the Chikubosai name in 1950. In 1953 he had his first piece accepted in Nitten, and he exhibited in 1959 at Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. He was honored by the Japanese government in 1992, and given the great honor of being named a “Living National Treasure” in bamboo craft in 1995.

Some loss to rattan wrapping at the lower band of basket's rim.
