Wayland Baum (NC, 1904-2007), Hen Bluebill
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Wanchese, North Carolina.

Length 16 in.

Former collection of Hiddenite Arts and Heritage Center.

Wayland was born and raised in Wanchese where he built a life working on the water. His duck decoys are small compared to other carvers from the area but they were very effective on the northern waters of Pamlico Sound. His heads have a forward leaning position which make the decoys appear to be swimming. His forms are iconic and hen bluebill by him are extremely rare.

Worn original paint; working repair to the neck; side and back of the neck has age splitting; age check in the back.
