Meiji period (1868-1912), black lacquer decorated in gilt and gold hiramaki-e
with a pair of phoenixes and paulownia tree to top and sides, sides decorated with reticulated old style fan with faux bamboo center, fitted with a sake flask, box above, four compartment food storage boxes decorated with illustrated books, and above five plates decorated with a flock of birds, with metal handle to top.
10 7/8 x 10 1/8 x 6 5/8 in.
Good estate condition; some minor chips to edges; one larger chip with loss to foot of one box.
