Ben Gallop (NC, 1872-1946), Canvasback, Monkey Island Club
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Hog Quarter, North Carolina, featuring a high head, exceptional form, and stunning patina.

Length 18 in.

Former collection of the Penn Family, owners of the Monkey Island Club.

Ben made a large stand of decoys in 1923 which consisted mostly of redheads and canvasbacks. This decoy made it's way to the Monkey Island Club as it was collected directly from the Penn family. Charles Penn became a member of the club in 1927 and purchased it in 1931. It was collected from his son's estate at the time of his death. This decoy represents the best of Ben Gallop's work.

Old gunning paint; working repair to the neck.
