19th century, very finely painted in kutani colors of golden yellow, green, blue, aubergine, and iron red, the shishi lions have great energy and expression as they frolic amidst the giant peony blooms, label to the side reads "John C. Bentz, Importer, Japanese Fine Art, Pasadena, Cal."
