Chéret designed this poster as an advertisement for a marionette show in Paris. Though this impression is from the edition before letters - later posters bear descriptive text - the viewer instantly recognizes it as a composition by Chéret because of the dancing beauties, colorful harlequins, and overwhelming joyful atmosphere.
