Circa 1865, pseudo English style hallmarks to underside and further marked "Bailey & Co / Chestnut St Phila," raised on four bracket feet with portrait medallions flanked by acanthus leaves; anthemion and scrolls are chased on the shallow foot; waist of body features four circular cartouches, two with portrait medallions, one open cartouche, and the fourth with period monogram "SMF;" the shaped rim features four additional portrait medallions; the domed dover with winged caryatid form ring handle; with likely original removable pierced liner.

Likely from the silver service gifted to Samuel Morse Felton (1809-1889) by "his friends of the city of Philadelphia and its vicinity" in 1865. Felton was the president of the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad from 1851-1865.

Slight mis-shaping to inner collar of cover; old repairs to handle attachment of cover; light scratching.
