A Japanese Black Lacquered Wood Ship Tansu Cabinet

Edo period (1615-1868), late 18th or early 19th century, with a single hinged door that opens to reveal six interior drawers with metal blossom pulls, exterior of cabinet is lacquered black and decorated in gilt, brass hardware to edges of the cabinet, a metal carrying handle is mounted to the center top, this cabinet may have been used on a ship as a traveling case.
