Circa 1790, Punjab Hills, Kangra or Guler, illustration from a Ramayana series, this scene depicts when Shurpanakha Complains that her Nose was Cut off by Lakshman, in the background the demon army prepares to depart, with gold and red floral border on dark blue, pink margins, framed with mat.

Purchased in Old Delhi during the 1960s.

A similar painting from possibly the same Ramayana series sold at Christie's, March 23, 2022, Lot 467 and at Bonhams, New York, September 11, 2012, Lot 89.

Some dirt to surface; a slight vertical crease to paper in center of painting; some losses to paper in upper right corner; diagonal scratch to painting across animals under tree on hillside; possible water spots or staining to upper center of painting; reverse with inscription.
