"After I used the dolls in the Broken Doll/Male Figure series, they were stored away, with the plan to get rid of them in the not-too-distant future. Instead, a funny thing happened: I couldn't stop thinking about them and even kept collecting more. I was—and still am—attracted to the dolls' beauty and power, and decided that each one deserved its own formal portrait. After years of passing through the hands of many children, each doll had a story that reflected childhood dreams and aspirations, games of playing "grown-up," and the survival of the spirit through all of life's joys and challenges.
