A Large Indian Painting of a Romantic Meeting
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
20th century, finely painted image of a prince returning from a hunting expedition and pausing to drink water at a well where four girls are drawing water, one of the girls holds out a water vessel to him, from which she pours water for him to drink, as her companions pause their activity to watch this romantic scene.

The subject of this painting may have originated from a poem composed by Muhammad Akram in 1685, based on the story of Shahid and Wafa or from the story of Mohna Rani and Chel Batao, both popular scenes in Indian painting.
