Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Churches Island, North Carolina, circa 1930, carved and painted wood, Herters ballast weight.

Length 17 in.

Burgess canvasback decoys were in great demand for many years on Currituck Sound. Ned Burgess met this demand by carving this species more than any other. Today, they are in great demand by collectors as the Burgess canvasback offers a graceful sculptural form. This example is unique as the drop tail and slightly lifted head run in the same plane.

Original paint with moderate gunning wear, some roughness to the right side of the bill.
