Ned Burgess (NC, 1868-1958), Exceedingly Rare Black Duck
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Churches Island, North Carolina, circa 1920s, carved and painted wood.

Length 18 in.

Former collection of Philip and Susan Harvey.

The Burgess black duck decoys have their own special style and are extremely rare. This monumental decoy is oversized with a winded head pose. Faint olive green cheek patches are present. The surface of the decoy is dry and the overall patina is sublime. It is perhaps the finest example to come to market.

Original paint worn to bare wood in places.
