Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Atlantic, North Carolina, circa 1940s, carved and painted wood, body is made of balsa salvaged from liberty ship life rafts from Second World War, published on page 245 of Waterfowl Heritage North Carolina Decoys and Hunting Lore by Neal Conoley.

Length 25 in.

Lambert Morris was deeply influenced by his friend Alvin Harris. He typically made his decoy bodies out of cork or balsa. They typically have wide flat bottoms which allowed them to ride well in the wind driven chop of Core Sound. He attached his heads with threaded copper rods and bolts which extended through the juniper bottom board. This is a very rare oversized example.

Original paint with moderate gunning wear, chipping on tail.
