The first is sterling silver match safe with mark of Wm. B. Kerr & Co., the recto with boldly modeled griffin in high relief, the verso engraved "When hearts were young," parcel gilt (2 3/4 x 1 3/4 in.); the second an Austrian .900 silver and niello cigarette case, late 19th century, "HK" maker's mark, period monogram to cover, with delicate grape vine motif to recto and verso, parcel gilt (3 1/4 x 2 3/4 in.); the third is silverplate, unmarked, with holly and mistletoe design to recto and verso (2 1/2 x 1 1/2 in.); and the fourth is a mother-of-pearl and tortoise shell card case with applied silver plaque to hinged cover, 19th century (loss to tortoise shell veneer above clasp, some scratching and nicks to mother-of-pearl).
