Mitchell & Tyler was among the largest silverware and jewelry businesses in Richmond, Virginia. The firm was active from 1845 until 1866.

The monogram on this ladle is that of Thomas Watkins Morton (1817-1854). Morton was born in Charlotte County, Virginia, to Joseph Morton and Elizabeth Ann Watkins. He married Agnes Ann Lockett on November 25, 1839, in Prince Edward, Virginia.

Denting to bowl; light scratching consistent with age and some use.
