Mark of William Gale Jr. and "Sterling" to underside, circa 1866, made in New York, with French swan form import marks to each rim, in the form of a dolphin atop a stepped rocaille form base and supporting a double lipped parcel gilt bowl, each with period "WA" monogram and an armorial crest of a demi lion holding a mullet (star) above the motto Semper Fidelis.
