According to family members, Fred made a stand of canvas swans that went "straight to the bottom." Later foam was added for flotation and a large wooded keel was added to keep the decoys from listing in the wind. There is a strong resemblance to the important John Cannon Waterfield wooden swans made by his father, custom stand conveys.
Exhibited at Duke University 2023.
